CHICAGO (AP) - Murder charges have been filed against a Chicago man in the shooting death this week of a former Chicago high school basketball standout.

Authorities say 24-year-old Travell Taylor was charged Friday in the fatal shooting Monday of Jonathan Mills. The 26-year-old Mills was on a West Side street when he was approached by a gunman who shot him multiple times.

Chicago police say Taylor was identified as the shooter and was arrested Thursday.

Taylor is scheduled to appear Saturday at a bond hearing. It wasn’t immediately known if Taylor has legal representation.

Mills played forward and center for North Lawndale College prep, leading the team to the Public League title in 2009 and third place in the Class 3A state tournament. He went on to play at the University of Southern Mississippi.
