HURON, S.D. (AP) - A fish kill in Ravine Lake in Huron has disrupted recreational swimming and a weekend triathlon.

Parks Director Laron Klock tells KOKK radio that state wildlife officials believe the die-off is due to a combination of low oxygen levels in the water, high water temperatures and stagnant water.

Klock says regular testing of the water has turned up no water quality issues, and dead fish are being removed daily.

But the water has been deemed unsafe for swimming, and the swimming portion of this weekend’s triathlon has been scrapped. The triathlon will have two running events and a biking event.
