NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - The Newport Jazz Festival is getting underway with three days of music featuring artists from across the musical spectrum.

Pianist Chick Corea headlines Friday night at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, and will be joined by drummer Brian Blade and bassist Christian McBride. McBride has been named the new artistic director of the festival, and will be taking the reins from festival founder George Wein (ween) next year.

Also playing Friday, at Fort Adams State Park, is New Orleans funk and jazz jam band Galactic and tenor saxophonist Kamasi Washington.

On Saturday, the music continues at Fort Adams with performances by vocalist Gregory Porter, Norah Jones and others.

Angélique Kidjo closes out the festival on Sunday.

The festival was founded in 1954.
