SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Officials are investigating a fire at a Salem duplex that left two residents hospitalized with burn injuries.

The Statesman Journal reports (https://stjr.nl/2aAPBtK ) that firefighters had responded to the home Thursday morning and were able to extinguish the flames within an hour.

Marion County Fire District #1 Battalion Chief Patrick Wineman says investigators believe the fire broke out in the kitchen before spreading to the attic.

Two people were burned and taken to a hospital. The extent of their injuries has not been released.

Wineman says two people and a dog were evacuated from the burned duplex and the adjoining unit.



The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
