HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - Two people are dead following an early-morning, head-on collision in Hot Springs.

The Hot Springs Police Department says the collision occurred Sunday at about 6:05 a.m. on a roadway near Lake Hamilton.

Officers say a vehicle driven by Elbert G. Kemp of Malvern, Arkansas, was westbound at a high rate of speed when the vehicle veered out of control in a curve near a bridge. A news release says Kemp’s vehicle crossed both eastbound lanes, struck a sidewalk and then collided with an eastbound truck.

Kemp’s vehicle then struck a bridge guardrail and continued westbound before flipping over the guardrail and landing upright in Lake Hamilton. Officers say Kemp, who was ejected from his vehicle, and his passenger, Devin N. Wilson of Hot Springs, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
