DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A roadside memorial honoring a Des Moines cyclist who was killed by a drunken driver last year has been mangled in another car crash.

The Des Moines Register reports (https://icp-c.com/29EBoXX ) the white bike that serves as a memorial to Gregary “Wade” Franck was struck Friday night.

The bike’s tires were bent up when a car driven by an 18-year-old woman hit it. She was treated for cuts on her neck.

Franck died last August after being hit by a drunken driver who has been sentenced to 34 years in prison.

Craig Lien says he locked the bike memorial to a nearby tree to make sure it wasn’t stolen. He says the memorial might be a better warning now that it looks more like Franck’s bike did after the fatal crash.
