LAUREL, Del. (AP) - One man is dead and another person gravely injured after a car wreck in Laurel.

Delaware police say the wreck occurred at around 1:40 a.m. Saturday when a man speeding in a pickup truck on Sussex Highway struck a Mercedes, causing it to rotate and run off the road. The car spun down a grass embankment and burst into flames.

Police say the driver of the Mercedes, who has not yet been identified, was unable to escape and was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, the man’s wife, was able to escape with severe burns and blunt force injuries, and was airlifted to a hospital.

The truck driver has been identified as Michael Gonzalez. He has been charged with vehicular homicide and drunken driving.
