BANGOR, Maine (AP) - The venerable Bangor State Fair is having its second day in Maine’s Queen City and expects to draw more than 40,000 residents.

The ten-day event began on Friday. Organizers call it an “agricultural and recreational gathering” of people from all over Maine.

The fair takes place on Bass Park, which surrounds Cross Insurance Center. Organizers say the event dates back to at least the mid-1800s.

The state fair includes animal and commercial exhibits, a flower show and a carnival midway. The main events include ox and horse pulling and a demolition derby.
