DENMARK, S.C. (AP) - The man who led South Carolina State University through its financial troubles has been named the new president at Voorhees College.

Trustees at the school in Denmark announced Friday that W. Franklin Evans is the private college’s new president.

Evans takes over for civil rights leader Cleveland Sellers, who decided to retire after six years running the school.

Evans was interim president at SC State for 16 months, helping a whole new Board of Trustees appointed by lawmakers put in a plan to balance the budget at the school. Evans also helped SC State end the probation of its accreditation.

Evans says he is excited and humbled to continue Sellers excellent work at Voorhees.
