EVERGREEN, La. (AP) - One of the oldest historic churches in Louisiana in the tiny central Louisiana town of Evergreen is celebrating its 175th anniversary Sunday.
The Bayou Rouge Baptist Church was founded in 1841 and built in 1859. It’s one of the oldest churches in the state. Some cemetery headstones predate the Civil War.
Pastor David Trimbur tells The Town Talk (https://townta.lk/2a5WMc2 ) that about 40 people typically worship at the church, but he expects about 300 worshippers on Sunday.
Trimbur is one of 56 pastors who have served at the church. He’s held three separate tenures there, beginning in the 1960s.
Evergreen is in Avoyelles Parish.
