WASHINGTON (AP) - The mother and grandmother of a seven-month old are facing child cruelty charges after the infant died while left unsupervised by an adult.

Police say 28-year-old Terri Hooks dropped off her five children at their grandmother Tracey Hooks’ house, then the women left them alone overnight in the care of a 10-year-old sibling. The next morning when the child called for help when the seven-month-old wouldn’t wake up or move.

WRC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2ai4Xzl ) that an autopsy found pneumonia, sharing a bed with siblings and an unsafe sleeping environment contributed to the baby’s death.

Police say last year Terri Hooks sent a text message saying she wanted to give up her children.

The women turned themselves in Friday and were released.
