SLIDELL, La. (AP) - St. Tammany Parish sheriff’s detectives are asking the public to help identify a homicide victim whose body was found near the Rigolets (RIG-uh-leez).

Sheriff Randy Smith says about the only distinguishing mark is a scar from open heart surgery.

He says the man apparently had been dead for several days before his body was found Friday, and decomposition was so severe that investigators could not tell his age, or even his race.

An autopsy found that the man was about 5-foot-10, and authorities are trying to identify the body through DNA. They haven’t been able to match the little information they have with people reported missing in neighboring jurisdictions.

Investigators believe the man was killed somewhere else and his body dumped on Highway 90 just south of Louisiana Highway 433.
