GROTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont state police say a 31-year-old Groton man has been arrested on a charge of dispensing a drug that killed a man.

Police say John H. Faucette III provided an opiate drug to Marcus Smith, who died July 5 after emergency crews found him unresponsive at Faucette’s home.

Detective Sgt. David Petersen says Faucette will face a charge of dispensing a regulated drug with death resulting. That carries a penalty of from two to 20 years in prison.

Faucette was jailed for lack of $25,000 bail at the Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury until his arraignment Monday.

It could not be determined if he has a lawyer.
