GROTON, Conn. (AP) - Here’s something to scope out in Mystic and Groton: a fleet of 21 miniature submarine sculptures painted in whimsical themes.

The sculptures are being displayed around both towns until October to help mark the 100th anniversary of the Naval Submarine Base New London.

High school art teacher Joy Supples hatched the idea of creating a public art “submarine trail” for locals and visitors to follow.

Professional artists, students and residents created the designs for each of the mini-subs.

Organizers also developed CT Sub Trail, a free mobile phone app with a map and information about each of the sculptures and artists, as well as a website with details.
