COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) - A prosecutor is preparing to announce what happens next in a 2015 shooting death involving police in Columbus, Mississippi.

Local media outlets report Lowndes County District Attorney Scott Colom plans to hold a news conference Wednesday.

Coroner Greg Merchant says 26-year-old Ricky Ball died after being shot in the upper and lower body on Oct. 16, 2015.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation finished investigating the case in early June and sent a file to Colom.

The Columbus City Council fired police officer Canyon Boykin in late October, saying he violated police department policy by not turning on a body camera before the shooting, and that he violated the city’s social media policy.

Boykin sued the city in February, saying Ball pointed a pistol at him before he shot Ball.
