WEST HAVEN, Vt. (AP) - Vermont state police say they are investigating the death of a driver at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven after he struck a wall head-on and died of his injuries several hours later.

Authorities say 61-year-old Ronald Casey, of Manchester, Vermont, drove straight through turn four at the track at about 9:15 p.m. Sunday. He was taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just after midnight.

Police say Casey may have driven off the course due to a medical event. They say an autopsy will be done to determine cause and manner of death.

The investigation is ongoing.

This story has been corrected to report that the accident occurred Sunday, not Saturday.
