NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says a man fishing on the Cane River near Natchitoches was killed when his boat was struck by another vessel.

The department says 65-year-old William R. Morrison of Dry Prong was ejected into the water and died Saturday when a boat driven by 39-year-old Shannon Mctire hit his boat.

A passenger in Morrison’s boat, Teresa Halbert, was not seriously injured.

Mctire immediately stopped his boat and jumped in the water to assist Morrison, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say alcohol was not a factor, and the incident remains under investigation.
