RIDGELAND, Miss. (AP) - A New Orleans woman is charged with misdemeanor child neglect and resisting arrest after Mississippi police say she left her 3-year-old grandchild in a car while she shopped.

Ridgeland police say in a news release that 56-year-old ReJohnna B. Mitchell was charged Sunday night and released from custody after posting $2,000 bond.

It was not immediately clear whether she has an attorney.

Officers responded to a 911 call from a person who saw the child alone inside a car in a Lowe’s parking lot. The car was off and a window was down about 2 inches. Emergency workers unlocked the car about five minutes after the call, and the child received medical treatment.

The release says Mitchell told officers she had stopped to use the restroom, then shopped for plants.
