PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Mainers across the state are enjoying outdoors activities as they celebrate the Fourth of July.

Parades and fireworks are being held across the state from York Harbor to Lewiston to Limestone. The biggest event is on Portland’s East End where tens of thousands are expected for the “Stars and Stripes Spectacular” featuring the Portland Symphony Orchestra and fireworks.

Maine has been enjoying perfect weather for the three-day weekend with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the 70s.

AAA said low gas prices were behind projected travel records. All told, 43 million people were expected to travel over the three-day weekend.
