NORTHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities have identified the boy who drowned in an upstate New York lake as 12-year-old Dominick LaFountain of the Fulton County village of Northville.

Fulton County Sheriff Richard Giardino says the boy was on a family outing at Northampton on the Great Sacandaga Lake Monday when he slipped from shallow water into a deeper area around 4 p.m.

Giardino says more than 100 people were in the water searching for the boy when emergency response teams arrived.

Divers searched for about four hours before they found the boy in 11 feet of water within 50 feet of where he went under.

He was taken to a Gloversville hospital where he was pronounced dead.
