PALMDALE, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles County authorities say a 3-year-old boy drowned in a backyard pool during a Fourth of July party in Palmdale.

Deputy Crystal Hernandez says the child and his mother were at the celebration Monday when the festivities moved to the front of the home to watch fireworks.

That’s when the mother noticed her child was missing and began to search for him. She found him in the pool and immediately pulled him out and began to render aid until firefighters arrived.

The boy was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Hernandez says it isn’t known how long the boy was in the water before he was discovered.
