CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - Carlsbad police say a driver is dead following an early morning shooting.

Lt. Jon Blackmon says police responding to a report of gunfire at about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday found 41-year-old Eric A. Florez fatally wounded from multiple gunshot wounds. Florez then died at the scene.

According to Blackmon, Florez was driving a van when he was shot and that witnesses described a white pickup truck as a possible suspect vehicle.

Blackmon says the rear of the pickup may have light damage and that detectives are following up investigative leads.

Additional information on the circumstances of the shooting was not immediately available.
