NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) - Police say a 3-year-old girl who was pulled unresponsive from a backyard swimming pool in North Las Vegas is the second young child in the area to die in an apparent Fourth of July drowning.

Officer Aaron Patty says the girl was pronounced dead Tuesday at University Medical Center in Las Vegas, after being found about 8 p.m. Monday in the pool at a home near Tropical Parkway and Bruce Street.

In a separate incident, Las Vegas police say a 6-year-old girl died after she was found in a pool a little after 7 p.m. Monday at a home near Torrey Pines Drive and Smoke Ranch Road.

She was pronounced dead at Mountain View Hospital.

In both cases, police say adults were hosting a holiday party at the time.
