FREDONIA, Ariz. (AP) - The North Canyon and South Canyon trail closures on the North Kaibab Ranger District will be lifted Wednesday morning due to decreased fire danger in the Fredonia area.

The North Canyon trail closure was implemented June 18.

It started at Forest Road 631 and extended to the intersection of the Arizona Trail on the west side, approximately three-quarters of a mile from Forest Road 611.

The South Canyon Trail closure started at Forest Road 211 and extended to the west side trailhead near the junction of forest roads 610 and 2599.

When the trail closures are lifted at 8 a.m., camping and hiking will be permitted.

Firefighters will continue patrolling and monitoring the area.

Campfire and smoking restrictions remain in effect until forest managers determine it’s safe to lift them.
