WALHALLA, S.C. (AP) - A Walhalla man has died while trimming a tree 70 feet in the air in Oconee County.

Coroner Karl Addis said in a statement that 57-year-old David Wayne Vaughn died Monday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to a home by homeowners around 1 p.m. who noticed they did not hear the tree-trimmer’s saw working. Vaughn had been working at the home since 8 a.m. Monday.

Addis says Vaughn was found unresponsive in his safety harness. Vaughn had no obvious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Addis says Vaughn’s leg was stuck in the tree for an hour Monday and he appeared disoriented before trying to climb down. Vaughn then lost consciousness and his upper body arched back in his safety harness, blocking his ability to breathe and killing him.
