ATLANTA (AP) - A College Park woman who fatally shot her son in the head while trying to break up a fight has been convicted in his death.

Latoya Tilson was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment after fatally shooting her 15-year-old son, Pierre, who was involved in a brawl along with several other teenagers at a College Park apartment complex on April 4, 2015. He died two days later.

Some witnesses told police that the 34-year-old Tilson came out of her apartment and escalated the fight when she fired several rounds into the crowd, striking her son and shooting another teenager in the buttocks. Tilson told police at the time that she was hit in the face before firing the gun.

She will be sentenced at a later date.
