NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A new top prosecutor has been announced for the district of New Haven.

The district’s new state’s attorney, Patrick Griffin, will replace Michael Dearington, who retired last month after more than 44 years as a prosecutor.

Griffin has been a prosecutor since 1995 and has been serving most recently with the Cold Case/Shooting Task Force Bureau in the office of the chief state’s attorney. He becomes the chief state law enforcement officer for the district including the cities of New Haven and Meriden.

The chairman of the Criminal Justice Commission also announced Tuesday that Kevin Kane has reappointed to a third term as chief state’s attorney. Kane has been a state prosecutor for more than 44 years.
