HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Authorities have recovered the body of a teenager who drowned in the Tennessee River near Huntsville.

Local news outlets report that the 17-year-old boy was at the river with his family Monday afternoon when he drowned.

Morgan County Rescue Squad Chief Danny Kelso says the teen, who was beginning to learn to swim, was wading in the water when he went under and didn’t resurface.

Rescue crews responded and were able to recover the body.

Kelso says the boy wasn’t wearing a life jacket.

His name is being withheld pending notification of family members.
