CALEDONIA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of a person whose body was found burning on the side of a dirt road in western New York.

State police say the body was found after a passing motorist reported a fire just before 11 p.m. Monday in the Livingston County town of Caledonia, 20 miles southwest of Rochester.

Troopers say the body was burned beyond recognition and it will take an autopsy to determine the person’s gender and cause of death.

Investigators are using dogs and drones to survey the area, which is remote and has no nearby homes.

Livingston County Sheriff Tom Dougherty says Tuesday they believe the death is an isolated incident and there’s no danger to the general public.
