WEST WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - State police say a man awaiting trial on child molestation charges assaulted two correction officers in Rhode Island.

Troopers say 26-year-old Jessie Gabriau was out on bail and on home confinement Monday when the battery in his ankle monitor died. Correction officers called him to the prison in Cranston to have it replaced.

The officers suspected Gabriau was drunk and tried to arrest him. Police say he attacked them as they tried to handcuff him and then fled. The correction officers were treated for head wounds.

Police say they found Gabriau at a West Warwick apartment early Tuesday and took him into custody.

Gabriau is charged with assault, assault on a person 65 or older and related charges.

He remains jailed. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
