MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - One of Vermont’s top securities regulators has been named commissioner of the Department of Financial Regulation.

The appointment of Michael Pieciak (PEA’-chak) was announced Tuesday by Gov. Peter Shumlin.

Pieciak succeeds former Commissioner Sudan Donegan, whose last day on the job was June 30.

Pieciak played a lead role in the investigation into the Jay Peak EB-5 projects, which culminated with the state and the federal Securities and Exchange Commission filing civil charges against two men.

Pieciak grew up in Brattleboro.
