RANKIN, Pa. (AP) - Police say a 14-year-old boy lighting fireworks with friends on the Fourth of July was fatally shot at a housing project in the Pittsburgh suburbs.

Authorities say the boy, Kennir Parr, of Swissvale, was shot just before 10 p.m. Monday.

Allegheny County police Lt. Andrew Schurman says it appears the boy was shot in the head. An autopsy is set for Tuesday to confirm that.

Police believe the boy was shot from a short distance away, but so far, none of the 30 to 40 witnesses in the Hawkins Village housing project in Rankin has provided details. County homicide detectives are urging anyone with information on the shooting to come forward.
