LOS ANGELES (AP) - A $1,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who fatally shot a coyote in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Silver Lake.

A resident out walking his dog found the coyote shot to death on a street in front of his parked truck last month.

The non-profit Project Coyote offered the reward Tuesday, asking anyone with information to contact the police Animal Cruelty Task Force. No suspects have been identified.

The killing happened in an upscale area near Griffith Park, a huge urban wilderness. Wildlife like coyotes and mountain lions occasionally come down from the park’s chaparral-covered hills and snatch pets, especially cats and small dogs.
