TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Tucson could see a major makeover thanks to a new, $54 million grant.

Officials announced the grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation on Wednesday. It must still be reviewed by Congress.

The section of I-10 carries about 120,000 vehicles per day and bottlenecks north of Casa Grande.

U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick says the improvements include widening areas where there are only two lanes, installing dust storm early warning technology and fixing narrow lanes.

The Arizona project was one of 18 approved this year.
