LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Authorities in Long Beach say a 17-year-old boy has lost his right hand in a fireworks accident.

City fire spokesman Brian Fisk tells the Press-Telegram newspaper (https://bit.ly/29kfatu) that the explosive went off in the teen’s hand late Monday. Officials didn’t immediately know what type of firework it was.

The victim was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

Just to the north in Compton, a 9-year-old girl lost her right hand and sustained blast injuries to her face when a firework exploded July 2. Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators are trying to figure out how the girl got the explosive.
