DETROIT (AP) - Hair extensions were stolen from a Detroit hair supply shop after thieves rammed a vehicle through the front door.

Police say an undisclosed number of packages of human hair weaves were taken about 4 a.m. Wednesday from AR Virgin Hair on the city’s northwest side.

Hair extension bundles can cost hundreds of dollars each.

Shop owner Carolyn Gillette tells WXYZ-TV and WJBK-TV that the value of the items stolen is between $40,000 and $50,000.

Gillette says investigators are reviewing in-store surveillance video.

Similar thefts have occurred in recent years in Houston, Atlanta, St. Louis and other cities.
