CLEVELAND (AP) - Police say a man shot in a drive-by shooting crashed his car into a church in Cleveland before he died.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office says 31-year-old Maurio Ayers died from the shooting Tuesday night.

Police say the Cleveland man was parked outside the home of a man he knew and was talking to him when a vehicle with three people inside pulled up and fired several shots at Ayers before fleeing. Ayers was shot in the chest and the man he was talking to was shot in the foot.

Police say Ayers tried to drive off after being shot, but crashed into the Historic Greater Friendship Baptist Church. No injuries were reported there. Ayers died later at a hospital.

Cleveland homicide detectives are investigating the shooting.
