NEW CITY, N.Y. (AP) - A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the death of an 18-year-old man during a robbery in suburban New York.

The Rockland district attorney’s office announced the indictment against Jiwan Coleman on murder and robbery charges on Wednesday.

The Journal News (https://lohud.us/29yvZmy ) reports investigators believe Ruben Suchite Torres was beaten with a rock on June 26 in Spring Valley. He succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

Coleman was originally charged with attempted murder. He’s being held on $3.5 million bail.

The paper says Torres was a senior at Spring Valley High School who worked part-time at Nanuet Hotel.

He lived with his father and sister; his mother and other siblings live in Guatemala.

It’s not clear if Coleman has a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
