NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Police say they’ve taken into custody a 16-year-old male in connection with the slaying of a 34-year-old man in Hampton.

WAVY-TV reports (https://bit.ly/29uOScY ) that police on Tuesday did not say whether or not the teen is facing any charges in the July 4th shooting death.

Officers say they responded to the shooting around 2:30 p.m. on Monday and interviewed possible witnesses until about 5 p.m.

Officials identified the victim as Gregory Whitlow of Hampton. He was found dead with a single gunshot wound near a convenience store. It’s unclear whether the shooter was on foot or driving. A motive also is unclear.

The slaying was the second that day. Police say they’re investigating whether the two shootings are connected.
