NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - Construction is underway to repair damage to Newport’s Cliff Walk caused by Superstorm Sandy.

WPRI-TV (https://bit.ly/29xuLIb ) reports that the Cliff Walk will remain open during the construction to repair damage and make safety improvements. There will be a detour to local streets between Narragansett Avenue and Webster Street.

The October 2012 storm washed away sections of the 3 1/2-mile public walkway between the ocean and some of the city’s mansions. It is one of Rhode Island’s most popular attractions.
