WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island yacht club that allows full membership to men only is reconsidering the policy after dealing with fallout from it.

Westerly Yacht Club members voted in June to uphold the policy.

The club allows wives as associate members but they can’t vote. Women who aren’t married to a male member can’t join.

The Westerly Sun reports (https://bit.ly/29o8U4Z) members were informed by letter that there will be another vote July 13.

The letter says it was called for because the club could be negatively impacted if it doesn’t reconsider, among other reasons. Some members want to discuss the policy further.

Events were canceled at the club because of the June vote.

The state chapter of the ACLU urged the club to change its policy or face a possible lawsuit.
