YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a Yuma County sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a woman while responding to a report of domestic violence.

The Yuma Police Department is investigating the Tuesday evening incident and says the deputy involved was not injured.

Police said 24-year-old Melissa Ventura died at the hospital after being shot unknown number of times. Police spokeswoman Sgt. Lori Franklin said Ventura attacked deputies with a knife after they knocked on her door while responding to a call of a domestic violence disturbance.
