COVINGTON, La. (AP) - The body of a 2-year-old boy has been found on the east bank of the Mississippi River levee near the Huey P. Long Bridge in Louisiana.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Col. John Fortunato tells news outlets that the body was found Wednesday evening and that the boy’s parents are being questioned.

The child had been reported missing earlier in the week in St. Tammany Parish. Capt. Daniel Seuzeneau of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office says deputies began investigating the case Tuesday night, which lead them to Jefferson Parish.

The investigation has been turned over to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators don’t know if foul play was involved in the child’s death. An autopsy will be conducted Thursday.
