CAPE MAY, N.J. (AP) - A Coast Guard recruit from Virginia who collapsed and died after a physical fitness run at a New Jersey training center has been identified.

The Coast Guard says 21-year-old Aaron Redd, of Stafford, collapsed after completing a 1.5-mile run at the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May. He collapsed last week and died Wednesday.

The Coast Guard says he had been medically evaluated before his enlistment on June 28 and again after arriving in Cape May.

The cause of his death hasn’t yet been determined.

The Coast Guard says it will conduct a full investigation into the recruit’s death, which is standard policy in such cases.
