NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A former Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office captain is set for trial Sept. 12 after she pleaded not guilty to a federal charge of theft of government funds.

Dawn Foret (fohr-AY’) entered the plea Wednesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sally Shushan in New Orleans.

Foret is accused of stealing at least $1,000 from the U.S. Department of Transportation between November 2010 and July 2012. She reportedly accepted federal money to conduct an underage drinking enforcement program while being paid for off-duty details.

The Courier reports (https://bit.ly/29v2xgW) Foret resigned June 13 from her position as assistant chief of detectives at the sheriff’s office. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Orleans charged her June 24.

Darryl Stewart, the former narcotics head for the sheriff’s office, pleaded guilty June 1 to the same charge.
