MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A state appeals court says the Madison school district is immune from a lawsuit alleging it should have prevented a portable scorers’ table from falling on a young boy.

According to court documents, the table fell on then-4-year-old Logan Dargenio after a recreational basketball game at La Follette High School in 2010. Dargenio’s guardian filed a lawsuit alleging negligence. The district argued the claims should be dismissed under a state law that grants governmental subdivisions immunity from lawsuits.

The 4th District Court of Appeals sided with the district Thursday, ruling nothing suggests the table was a known danger and Dargenio failed to identify any law or policy that requires the district to handle the table in any special way.

Dargenio’s attorney didn’t immediately return a message.
