NEWCOMB, N.Y. (AP) - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is planning a new mile-long trail in the Adirondack Mountains.

The Newcomb to Minerva multi-use trail in the 92,000-acre Vanderwhacker Mountain Wild Forest would be located along state Route 28N, near the Boreas River.

According to the DEC’s environmental notice bulletin, the trail will be located within a half-mile of the river, which is designated as a Scenic River.

DEC estimates the trail will occupy 1.1 acres over its length and says there are no known archaeological sites or historic structures identified or documented in the project location.

DEC is accepting comments on the proposed trail until July 14.
