LYNN, Mass. (AP) - A Revere police officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after an allegedly drunken driver returning from a Red Sox game struck his cruiser in a work zone on U.S. Route 1 in Saugus.

Authorities say 43-year-old Denny Miller, of Newburyport, “ignored all warning signs, arrow boards, and police lights warning him to move over” and rear-ended the cruiser in the northbound lanes early Thursday morning.

Miller was granted $2,500 bail after pleading not guilty to charges including drunken driving.

The injured officer, Capt. Terence Reardon, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and is recovering.

The cruiser was totaled.

Police say Miller has a prior drunken driving conviction in Ohio.

His attorney said that conviction was more than 20 years ago and his client is not a flight risk.
