NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - Officials have issued a swimming advisory for Hilton Park Beach in Newport News.

The Peninsula Health District said in a news release that samples taken from the water on Tuesday showed high levels of bacteria that exceeded the state water quality standards.

Additional samples were taken Wednesday. Those results were expected to be available Thursday.

A sign is posted on the beach alerting visitors to the advisory.

When the water meets state standards again, the sign will be removed.
