RENO, Nev. (AP) - Authorities in northern Nevada say a wildfire burning in grassy hills east of Sparks grew to almost 3.5 square miles, but was about 60 percent contained.

Truckee Meadows fire Chief Charles Moore tells the Reno Gazette-Journal (https://on.rgj.com/29q1lvP ) the fire started Wednesday afternoon about 2 miles northwest of Interstate 80 and spread quickly away from the city.

Moore didn’t immediately respond Thursday to a message from The Associated Press.

Officials say no structures were threatened and no evacuations were ordered.

Almost 100 personnel from seven area fire agencies were involved.

The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately reported.

Elsewhere, authorities report 80 percent containment of a lightning-sparked fire covering nearly 200 square miles of rangeland between Battle Mountain and the Idaho state line.

No injuries were reported and no structures damaged.
